Communication as intercourse by words, letters, or messages; interchange of thoughts or opinions. It would be difficult to think of anything that takes place, that makes a sound or a gesture, that does not in some way communicate. Communication and action make up the main thrust in a program. Public relations communication should be viewed as a catalytic agent, with little force of its own except as it can trigger action on the part of the person who receives it. Building from sight, sounds, and sensations, one finds the means to express himself, to be understood, and to understand. In the process, words and actions are the main carries. Many fundamental factors in the process must be taken into full account by anyone who would communicate effectively. These will underline the complexity of this process, a process that requires a minimum of two people coming together in an information-sharing relationship, using a set of common informational signs.
